Switchboard Upgrades Central Coast

Your switchboard is the heart of your home’s electrical system — and if it’s outdated, it can put your safety at risk. I provide professional switchboard upgrades across the Central Coast, bringing older electrical systems up to modern safety standards.

If your home still has ceramic fuses, frequent tripping, or no safety switches, a switchboard upgrade is one of the most important improvements you can make.

Is Your Switchboard Outdated?

Many older Central Coast homes were built long before modern electrical demands. With today’s appliances, EV chargers, air conditioning, and home offices, older switchboards can struggle to cope.

Common signs your switchboard may need upgrading include:

  • Ceramic fuses instead of circuit breakers

  • No safety switches installed

  • Power tripping when appliances are used

  • Burning smells or buzzing sounds

  • Renovations or new appliances planned

If any of this sounds familiar, it’s worth having your switchboard checked.

What a Switchboard Upgrade Involves

A switchboard upgrade replaces outdated components with modern circuit breakers and safety switches that protect both your home and the people in it.

I make sure your upgraded switchboard includes:

  • Modern circuit breakers

  • Safety switches (RCDs) for shock protection

  • Clear labelling of circuits

  • Compliance with current Australian Standards

Before starting, I assess your existing setup and explain exactly what’s required — no surprises, no pressure.

Safer Homes With Modern RCD Protection

Upgrading your switchboard helps:

  • Reduce the risk of electrical fires

  • Protect against electric shock

  • Prevent damage to appliances

  • Support modern electrical loads

  • Bring your home up to current safety standards

It’s not just an upgrade — it’s peace of mind.

Switchboard Upgrades for Renovations & New Loads

  • If you’re renovating, adding new appliances, installing air conditioning, or planning future upgrades, your switchboard needs to be able to handle it.

I regularly upgrade switchboards to support:

    • Kitchen and bathroom renovations

    • Induction cooktops and ovens

    • EV chargers

    • Pool equipment

    • Home offices and extra circuits

Doing the switchboard upgrade first helps avoid problems later.

Old Asbestos Switchboards on the Central Coast

  • Should be removed to remove harmful vapours and chemicals from your home
  • Most likely has old cotton cables with it

What a Switchboard Upgrade Costs

Every board is different, so I quote in writing after I have looked at yours — but here is what actually moves the price, so you know what you are paying for.

What’s included in the price

  • Removing the old board and safely disposing of it
  • New enclosure, main switch, circuit breakers and RCDs
  • Reconnecting and clearly labelling every circuit
  • Testing, and a compliance certificate on completion

What changes the price

  • How many circuits your home has
  • Whether the existing wiring is sound or needs attention
  • Single-phase or three-phase supply
  • Whether the old board contains asbestos, which requires safe removal
  • Whether a Level 2 ASP is needed for work on the service mains

When a Level 2 ASP is required

If the work touches the service mains or the connection from the street, that is Level 2 territory. I am not a Level 2 ASP myself, so I bring in a licensed one and coordinate it for you — you still deal with me throughout.
