What Is a Safety Switch?

A safety switch (also known as an RCD) constantly monitors the flow of electricity through your circuits. If it detects a fault — such as electricity flowing where it shouldn’t — it cuts the power almost instantly.

This helps protect against:

Safety Switches vs Circuit Breakers – What’s the Difference?

Both circuit breakers and safety switches are important, but they serve very different purposes in your home.

Circuit breakers respond to how much current is flowing through the wiring — not whether someone is at risk of electric shock.
